Acupuncture

Are You Wanting More Than What Western Medicine Provides?

Are you tired of medical professionals who only want to treat your symptoms instead of getting to know you on a deeper level?  Are you tired of someone telling you Oh, that’s nothing…. That’s common and happens to a lot of people. Or they blow you off completely when you explain a symptom or concern you have? Do you hope for a solution that goes beyond the surface and can positively address multiple areas?

Maybe you’d like to feel more relaxed. Perhaps you’d like to improve the quality of your sleep. Do you feel you need to increase your energy levels? Many come to see our acupuncturist to decrease pain and promote recovery.  It’s conceivable you’ve had a history of professionals only focusing on the symptoms of pain, not the underlying causes and conditions which led to surgery after surgery.

Acupuncture has gained popularity throughout the world and is now more accessible than ever before. What many don’t realize is that acupuncture could have a positive effect on everyone’s wellbeing, as it is excellent for helping maintain a level of health when used in a preventative measure. Many think of acupuncture for physical symptoms however, it can include your mental, emotional, and psychological wellbeing.

Can this really be the solution?

At the Recovery Collective, we use acupuncture, herbal remedies, and other natural healing methods. Doing so can help you connect the dots between what is happening in your mind, body, and spirit.

A key component of Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) is acupuncture.  CCM aims to restore the body’s balance and harmony between natural opposing forces of yin and yang, which can cause disease and block qi (vital energy). Practitioners of Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) learn and refine detailed ways of examining a client to gather information to form a potential diagnosis, in a much different way from Western Medicine teaching methods. Our Acupuncture practitioner will approach the client to assess and potentially diagnose according to underlying patterns after a brief non-invasive exam.

Don’t be surprised if our Acupuncturist asks to look at your tongue and may request to feel the pulse from your wrist.   These are the primary diagnostic techniques our Acupuncturist will use.

The ancient Chinese approximately 3000 years ago, discovered that the body consisted of distinct dynamic channels that are associated with different organs within the body. Acupuncture needles can stimulate these channels when placed at specific points and the body can be brought back into balance and coherence. One of the core beliefs of Traditional Chinese Medicine is that we store our emotions in our blood and hold stress in various parts of our body. Working closely with the body allows the acupuncturist to uproot these emotions or blockages by bringing them to the surface and get to the core issues affecting our lives. Acupuncture and the broader context of Classical Chinese Medicine can have a positive effect on your mind and body. Whether it’s a physical pain (headaches, chronic pain) or mental diagnosis (anxiety, depression), our acupuncturist can work with you to create the best treatment design possible.

You May Have Some Questions About Acupuncture

I’m not sure I’m comfortable with needles or working with the body.

Acupuncture needles are exceptionally thin and small—most patients say that they can barely feel them. The Acupuncturist performs most of their procedures on the arms and legs, below the elbows and knees (on areas known as distal points in acupuncture). If you are okay with acupuncture being done on other parts of the body, then we can take a more expansive approach. In the end, we will only do what you feel comfortable with.

Is acupuncture really helpful?

Acupuncture is thousands of years old and contains a science in its own right. It’s hard to imagine how any form of medical treatment could last so long, and benefit so many people, if it wasn’t helpful. Although we don’t have time to delve into lengthy research here, there have been many studies on the efficacy of acupuncture, and we have witnessed its positive effects on our clients’ lives with both verbal and tangible proof.  Having a wonderfully skilled and trained practitioner can also make a difference. We’ve had a multitude of clients who come to the Collective, and report seeing their Acupuncturist here, has been as important to them as seeing their doctor, physical therapist, therapist, or even pain management doctor!

In fact, with the rise of the opioid epidemic, many doctors are limiting opioid prescriptions in favor of natural treatments and medicine. Several organizations including The American College of Physicians (ACP), The Joint Commission, State Attorneys General as well as the White House, have highlighted acupuncture as an effective and first line of treatment for chronic pain.  Acupuncture has also been associated with positive outcomes for people who experience stress or who’ve suffered traumas.

What if I don’t see results immediately?

Many clients notice an immediate change. Please also keep in mind, acupuncture was never meant to be a quick fix. The blockages within the body can take time to treat.  Acute type of ailments can take hours to days to create more normalcy.  Chronic type conditions can take days, weeks, or in some cases months before a state of recovery is achieved.  For chronic cases that include a complex history, it takes at least 3 months (though sometimes longer) to achieve the best results. At the Recovery Collective we believe in true transparency. Having this type of insight and a Health Practitioner that has the heart of a teacher will lead to better conditions for healing, results, and recovery.

The length of time indicated for maximum potential should not be understood as the amount of time it takes before you start to notice a change.  It is possible, even with a complex history, to notice positive changes even after the first one to three treatments. Along with potential lifestyle change guidance, there are times when herbal remedies may be indicated alongside acupuncture to make sure that you are getting the best possible care. Western Medicine is often designed to treat a symptom and prescription companies promise fast acting medications. Acupuncture and Classical Chinese Medicine from our highly skilled Acupuncturist addresses both the roots (causes) and branches (symptoms) of your struggles.
